June 25, 2014 – The Board votes (again) for the president’s personal calendar 2014-2015, without winter – the president who is actively looking for other work at other colleges. Watch video and see agenda here.
Psst…It is unheard of for a college not to have planned the academic calendar years in advance, much less the calendar starting in a few months.
Spring 2015 – The Calendar Committee starts meeting to discuss next year’s calendar. When students check the calendar starting Fall 2015, nothing comes up.
Jan. 2015 CAPM meeting: Interim President Bob Miller: If you want winter, we can have winter, but let’s wait and see what the student survey says.
Feb 2015 – The Associated Students send an online survey to current students with questions ranging from “are your classes easy to get” or “what do you think about PCC’s facilities”, with one question related to winter: “Do you want an extra semester before the spring semester.” 64% (556) said yes, 303 said no.
Meanwhile, Students for Social Justice conducted a petition and gather over 900 signatures in 2 weeks. They accompanied the petition with this information flyer since many students are new at PCC and didn’t have any background.
Feb. 19, 2015- The Calendar Committee votes to approve a calendar with winter for the 2015-2016 school year unless there is some objection from the Associated Students once they discuss their survey results. Watch video.
Feb. 25, 2015 – Associated Students discuss their survey and voted to recommend a winter calendar.
Feb. 26, 2015 – College Council votes to approve its Calendar Committee recommendation for a calendar with winter. Interim President Bob Miller cites the reason that he disapproves of a winter calendar because the incoming president, whoever that may be, should have a chance to weigh in on this. (Say WHAT?!?!?) At that meeting, the head of counseling Cynthia Olivo said that it would not be impossible to implement winter, as long as they get going on it.
March 18, 2015 – No Winter again for next year, surprise surprise.
No news of PERB decision on the administration’s appeal to PERB’s ruling last year to bring back winter with back-pay… But why wait? Students need winter – NOW!
